Pledging 3% of our contracted hours to charity

Each sprout chooses a charitable cause or two to donate their time to.

Sprout believes in giving back to the community and doing what we can to help those in need around us. To ensure we don’t get too caught up in our work we’re pledging 3% of our working hours to a charity of each sprout’s choice. Time donations might be a small amount of time every week, or accumulated over time so we can take part in a day or two of charitable help every couple of months. How we donate our time is up to each sprout too, whether they want to get hands on or choose to spread awareness. They are also free to choose multiple charities if they wish.

Kate has been donating her time as Treasurer for the The Open Bionics Foundation, a charity dedicated to helping fund advanced bionic arms for people with upper limb differences from socio-economically deprived backgrounds.

Kyle set up (and manages) the crisp packet recycling scheme at our local Primary school. Set up through Terracycle - packets are sent to a facility in Blackburn to be turned into plastic pellets and repurposed into a variety of things, such as park benches. In return, money is earned that is donated to the school’s PTFA (Parent’s, Teachers & Friends Association). More about that here.

Lee is going to support either the Ben Saunders Foundation, who aid young people living with cancer, as he would play football with the late Ben Saunders as a child, or the Bath Cats and Dogs Home - having already adopted a number of cats from them.

At the time of writing, Scarlet is still deciding, but is thinking that Bath Cats and Dogs Home will also be her current charity of choice, simply because she loves cats and would similarly would love to volunteer and spend time with them.

We’re putting a lot of thought into why we’re opting to go with these charities because they mean a lot to us in one way or another. It’s a privilege to be able to spare the time to lend a helping hand to causes as amazing and as admirable as these.

Giving back to those who have helped us to get this far is so important and we want to show how appreciative we are of the lovely little community that we have. If you have any suggestions for any incredible charities we may have missed that you’ll think we’ll love, please let us know! We’re always looking for commendable causes to donate to and help out.
